Hi,

Out of curiosity, do you plan on updating libpam, or creating/adding it to a gutsy repository of your site? dapper and edgy are somewhat long gone now...

Thanks,
Geoff

I've just upgraded a Compaq R3000 laptop to Gutsy and am very impressed with the result. Only the TI 1620 card reader doesn't work (as in previous versions) but I have a USB reader anyway so, no problem. Compiz is a real eye-opener and the only unusable application was Tilda which I resolved by configuring gnome-terminal to act similarly. Graphics (ATI) and memory management are excellent and overall stability, machine speed and crispness of operation have definitely increased. All in all a big thumbs-up and thanks to the Ubuntu devs and testers.

Upgrade to 7.10 from 7.04 went fine but it seems to have slowed down the Thunderbird login and the Firefox web page loading. I might have missed a setting or there may be a fix coming for it. Otherwise I'm sticking with Gutsy.

Thank you for this one!
Works like a charm on my Dapper Server. The authentication key would be great indeed, Tolero.
Many thanks, buddy.

Kyle c that's great that straight away u had everything working properly on ubuntu, winxp didnt recognize hardware, u needed to download drives very painful but at least everything was working properly! Dont bother trying to explain me how to install gf8800 and enable all the fireworks from mesa+opengl support I have waisted hours trying to sort it out on 7.04, read a lot of forums and what? Nothing! Ten years ago I was studing and I faced same problem (of course not gf8800 but if I remember well gf2). Now after 10 years I have still problems with graphic card! I am not saying I wont install ubuntu 7.10 but still there are HUGE holes and I dont wish anyone to face them.

I am really looking forward to making the upgrade.

I am a ubuntu noob.

I bought a laptop last month, and like all new laptops, mine came with the vista virus. I decided that I should finally make the switch to linux, and i have heard nothing but great things about ubuntu.
So i downloaded feisty, installed it, and everything just worked, i have not had a single problem with it, aside from installing java, which i am still having troubble with. it found all the drivers, and everything just worked.

then when i installed winXP (i need it for work) on a partition, I ran intro troubble. winXP didn't recognize my soundcard, my wifi card, my touchpad. its a widescreen monitor and XP couldnt even give me the 1200X800 resolution, I got a very distorted 1024 X 768. even the proccessor dind't work properly, windows though it was only 600mhz!

I had to go through and download and install each individual driver to get windows working.

Feisty just worked straight out of the box. I am very impressed. and if gutsy is as big of an improvement as you say, I am very excited.

its sad that linux actually works better than windows, an OS some people actually PAY for.
